Michael S. Blaiss, MD is a Medical Affairs Director, Allergen Immunotherapy at Merck. He is a pediatric and adult allergist who has lectured worldwide in the field of allergy and asthma management. He was a Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis and head of the Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology program at UT prior to going into a private allergy practice in Memphis at Allergy and Asthma Care. Dr. Blaiss’ clinical focus is on allergies, asthma, and allergic disorders, especially dealing with quality of life, outcomes, and economic issues. He has been named to the list “Best Doctors in America” from 1999-2013. In 2009, he was named by USA Today as one of the most influential physicians in asthma care.

Dr. Blaiss has published more than 100 scientific peer reviewed articles and presented at more than 500 meetings and seminars throughout the world on such topics as allergic rhinitis, asthma, immunotherapy, socioeconomic subjects in allergy and asthma, and issues in compliance and adherence.

He has written for several peer-reviewed journals, including Journal of Pediatrics, Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Allergy, and JAMA, as well as several allergy textbooks. He has co-edited Atlas of Allergic Diseases. In addition, he has been a member of the editorial boards for the Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, World Allergy Organization Journal, Journal of Asthma, and Allergy and Asthma Proceedings, Hypersensitivity, and American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy.

He is a Past President of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and has served on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and the World Allergy Organization. He has been President of the Tennessee and Louisiana Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology Societies. Dr. Blaiss is a Fellow of the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.

He received his BS in Zoology at the University of Georgia where he was Phi Beta Kappa and his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences where he was AOA. After completing his residency at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center, he completed a fellowship in allergy/immunology at Ochsner Medical Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana.
